Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) Building 902 Renovation

Navy: Indian Head, MD

The design/build BEQ Building 902 Renovation project involved extensive interior and exterior upgrades to an existing building, including the enhancement or replacement of mechanical, electrical, structural, and roofing systems. These improvements rendered the existing facility LEED certifiable by significantly enhancing its overall energy and environmental efficiency.

Overview

The Building 902 Renovation project, located at Indian Head, Maryland, required the complete renovation of each room within a 32,400-square-foot dormitory facility. Exterior work was also performed, including the replacement of the roofing shingles, gutters, downspouts, doors, and windows, as well as the repainting of guard rails and hand rails. A new concrete ramp was installed to replace a wood ramp, and all existing concrete steps and stoops had to be power washed and coated with clear, non-slip epoxy.

In order to facilitate a safe and timely renovation of the interior of the fully occupied facility, Grimberg carefully phased the entire process, proceeding floor-by-floor or by blocks of rooms. This enabled occupants to shift rooms as required until all renovations were complete.
