Navy: Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD
The award-winning and design/build P-147 Maritime Aircraft Test Facility contract involved the new construction of a 24,000-square-foot, LEED certifiable building that was a critical component of the Navy’s prototype Poseidon Multi-Mission (P-8) aircraft development effort.
Grimberg completed the project on schedule, within budget, and to the Navy’s total satisfaction. Because of its performance, the contractor received excellent overall evaluation ratings, as well as an Association of General Contractors (AGC) award.
Overview
Located at the Navy’s secure Patuxent River Naval Air Station, the P-147 Facility project included the construction of secure administrative areas, research and testing spaces, and related rooms and equipment. Interior and exterior systems included electrical, mechanical, HVAC, lighting, plumbing, fire protection, and storm water management.
Grimberg incorporated sustainable design features throughout the P-147 Facility, including energy-conserving HVAC systems and controls. The completed structure is an energy-efficient and LEED certifiable building that:
Grimberg successfully met all scheduled occupancy dates, utilizing a fast-tracked schedule and phasing plan to complete work by a mission-critical deadline (because of the sensitive nature of the project, the Navy required delivery within 365 days from the notice-to-proceed). The company also fulfilled all security requirements at the secure military site.
