Marine Corps University, Quantico, Virginia
The Staff Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO) Academic Facility at Marine Corps University was a major new construction project requiring careful coordination with the Navy and Marine Corps University. The state-of-the-art LEED-certified facility provides crucial education and training to U.S. military personnel and allied international students.
Overview
The SNCO Academic Facility is a 45,000-square-foot LEED-certified educational and administrative facility constructed for future non-commissioned military officers. The two-story structure consists of cold-metal framing with brick veneer and blast windows, as well as structural steel and concrete decks. Numerous sustainable design features were incorporated into the facility including LEED-compliant lighting with energy-efficient ballasts that limit excess electric current. In recognition of future occupants, Grimberg constructed the lobby in a manner that proudly displays the various ranks of NCOs etched in glass. The company also constructed specialized display cases to exhibit historic Marine Corps NCO memorabilia.
