P162 Agile Chemical Facility Phase 2, Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head

The Agile Chemical Facility Phase 2 project required the renovation of 12 existing buildings and construction of 10 new buildings to upgrade the 1950s-era Naval Surface Warfare Center munitions processing plant into a state-of-the-art explosives development, testing, processing, and disposal facility. Agile represents the most advanced explosives facilities in the United States military, and is so critical to the nation's War on Terror effort that the project received a priority completion rating, indicating that the facility was of the "highest national defense urgency." The facility supports nitrate ester manufacturing at the Biazzi plant in order to meet NSWC's mission to produce energetic chemicals for the defense community. The Facility can manufacture many different type of Nitrate ester energetic chemicals which include: Otto fuel (torpedo fuel), Nitroglycerine and many others.
